In a remarkable piece of good fortune, the recently-released report into intelligence failures leading up to the Iraq war has completely exonerated George W. Bush and his administration! That's right - the Bushies didn't make any mistakes or errors in judgment at all. How conveeeeenient! The report - prepared by a panel put together by, um, George W. Bush - asserts that the intelligence community - not just the CIA, but the DIA and the NSA - were "dead wrong" in almost every single prewar judgment. Not only that, but the Bushies didn't have anything to do with pushing the intelligence community to come up with Saddam's smoking gun. Well smack me with a herring and call me Marjorie.
In fact, the report practically places all of the blame for the entire Iraq war on an Iraqi defector named "Curveball", who was described by his handlers as "crazy" (not to mention a "drunken liar"). "So let me get this straight - "Curveball" makes up a bunch of shit, and the intelligence community swallows it whole. Then the intelligence community takes it to the Bush administration, and they swallow it whole, deciding to base the invasion of Iraq on the ramblings of a crazy drunken liar (Curveball, not George W. Bush). Oh, but it's not their fault. And, oh, I forgot that the only reason we invaded Iraq was so they could have elections, silly me.
So, despite the fact that the administration knew that Curveball was lying but a bunch of his "information" showed up in Colin Powell's presentation to the U.N. anyway, the administration is not to blame here. And despite the fact that George W. Bush said in 2003 that he had "darn good intelligence," after the uranium from Africa State of the Union debacle, he's not to blame.
And here's one interesting tidbit: the Republican party's 2000 platform explicitly stated that "In a time of fluid change and uncertainty, intelligence is truly America's first line of defense. The [Clinton] administration has weakened that defense by allowing a series of shocking security breaches, from blatant espionage and its virtual abandonment of national security-related export controls, to sheer sloppiness at the highest levels of government. This must stop, immediately. Nor should the intelligence community be made the scapegoat for political misjudgments." But fuck it, let's blame the intelligence community anyway. You know, this whole farce would be pretty funny if we weren't killing thousands of people over it.

Nice levelheaded, middle of the road piece there, Echo. It's nice to see a different perspective every now and then. Thanks for the fresh one.

And Clinton's clonies continued to with all of the above well after slick Willy was out of office. Afterall, Sandy Berger (Clinton's former national security adviser and an adviser on the Kerry's campaign) pleaded guilty to stealing and destroying classified documents.

Did he say that, dipshit? No, he was simply referencing AN occurrence, nothing more. Why were you so flatly rude to someone whom you've had very little correspondence with? You know what - it doesn't matter, feel free to curl back up in your corner, and continue chewing on your toenails while playing with your korgan. You're done being offensive for now...

I'm sorry for taking a direct quote from the original thread and relating something to it that is factual.
How does staying on topic with facts make me on asshole? Other things might, but not that.

Hey, now that you mention it, he certainly did.
Someone call Bush's select panel that investigated the intelligence failures that lead us into such an ill-advised war!!.......we may have just located the REAL cause of the Iraqi conflict......
.....damn that Sandy Berger.

echo, when a democrat is president again (god forbid) and they start getting slammed for shit that they have no control over you will do it too. it is the natural cycle of things. you compare presidents to other presidents. Who are we supposed to compare him to if not another president?

First off,
I don't believe for a second that Saddam either had WMDs or would've started making them the second the U.N. inspectors gave up. The Kay Report spelled out what Saddam had and he DID have illegal weapons; cruise missles, UAVs, ballistic missles and such. PLUS a massive ammo storage depots. Then there was a concerted effort to first, play games with the weapons inspectors, then selected documents and computer hard drives were destroyed and finally Saddam had 18 months to hide, destroy, disperse any WMDs he may or may not have had. We will never know exactly what WMDs Saddam had or was working unless our soldiers trip over a hidden site containing them, which is unlikely.
The funny thing is that one of the criticisms of 9/11 is the failure to "connect the dots" that would've pointed to a terrorist attack here in the U.S. Yet when it comes to finding out exactly what Saddam was up to, every time a report with the dots there to be connected surfaces, the anti-Bushes take a match to that report and burn it.
Freethinker had posted a link proving that there were certain people on the Right who did want to oust Saddam as well as try to rid the Mid East of tyrants, the PNAC report was cited as well as a letter sent to Bill Clinton stating that Saddam was bad news and stronger was needed.
The basic argument is this. Does the U.S. let the tyrants in the Mid East go there own way, deprive their people of oppurtunity, rights and freedom, while blaming the U.S. for their sufferings, or does the U.S. take action to try to end the cycle of violence in the Mid East? You guys decide what action was best.

I don't believe for a second that Saddam either had WMDs or would've started making them the second the U.N. inspectors gave up.
So launching war on assumption is "okay"? Really? That's a good enough reason for you? The "chance" he may start his weapons programs is good enough for you to start a full out war against Saddam? Not to mention, if we were worried about him starting his weapons programs again, we should have kept the inspections in place until we felt comfortable taking them away. Why couldn't we have kept inspecting his country ever so often? Do you honestly think striking war is a better option?
The Kay Report spelled out what Saddam had and he DID have illegal weapons; cruise missles, UAVs, ballistic missles and such.
Missles are "WMD's"?
And, why do we let Saudi Arabia, Iran, Pakistan and NK own weapons like this? They were, for the most part more linked to terrorism. And they admitted to having weapons that were even worse then "missles" Why attack the country that "may or may not" have weapons?
Then there was a concerted effort to first, play games with the weapons inspectors
Turns out he really didn't have the weapons. Again, is just the fact he was "playing games" a good enough reason to launch war, spend billions of dollars and kill thousands of lives? That's a good enough reason for that? Right? Even though we have other nations saying they HAVE the weapons, we won't attack them. We will attack the nation that "may" or "may not" have the weapons.
months to hide, destroy, disperse any WMDs he may or may not have had.
Well, he didn't hide any. And we didn't find any. And if he shipped them off, why didn't we look in the Government we thought they went to?
The basic argument is this. Does the U.S. let the tyrants in the Mid East go there own way, deprive their people of oppurtunity, rights and freedom
The basic argument is imperalism. That will totally decrease terrorism around the world, forcing people to live the American lifestyle, the terrorists grew up to hate.

I'm not placing blame. Just stating the facts as they pertain to the post. You should try staying on topic sometime.
How do we know this was the first time a Clinton wannabe destroyed classified information. It's just the first time one got caught.
Stuffing classified material and interns down your pants, gotta love those Democrats.

LMAO! You came out of the box swinging in this thread, acted like a totally primitive blackguard, and then were called on it - not by one, but THREE people. Nothing I said to you here was even REMOTELY racist, you thickheaded asswipe. You wanna see my picture, fine - I'll post it. Don't get disparaged when you see someone of German descent who doesn't wear a little red armband.
How true is Stanislaw J. Lec's famous remark: "Every now and then you meet someone whose ignorance is encyclopedic."
The funny part is - the worst offenders don't realize how truly ignorant they are. Korg, just face it - you're probably the dumbest poster on this forum...by a long shot. No offense.
That being said, I don't hide behind a dictionary. I just happen to have a vocabulary that isn't challenged by grade school English classes.
Sorry.
