Looks like Berger was lying last summer when he said it was all an "honest mistake".
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Former US national security adviser Sandy Berger pleaded guilty to illegally taking classified documents before testifying about the September 11 attacks, the Justice Department said.
The single count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified documents carries a maximum penalty of a year in prison, a 100,000-dollar fine and a year supervised release, the statement said.
Berger was national security adviser to former president Bill Clinton. He admitted in July to illegally removing classified documents from the National Archives before testifying in March 2004 to a commission probing the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
He resigned as an adviser to former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry shortly after.
At the time, Berger said he acted inadvertently when he took the sensitive papers before testifying to the commission on behalf of the Clinton administration.
"I made an honest mistake. It's one I deeply regret," Berger said at the time.

They left all the good stuff out in the yahoo article though...
they didnt mention that he used scissors to cut up the classified documents.... and here's a bit from the World News section of the Morning Journal in Lorain, OH. The article is written by Mark Sherman, an Associated Press Writer.
Berger and his lawyer, Lanny Breuer, have siad that Berger knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket and pants and inadvertently took copies of actualy classified documents in a leather portfolio.
