Next debate topic, for qualification for nationals. We've had some arguments about illegal aliens on this board. Now lets turn this into... MORTAL COMBAT!

Affirmative arguments.
The work visas will be given to immigrants who are already here, and the benefit of it will overweigh the damages.
The Mexican economy gains in excess of $14 billion dollars a year from money sent home by illegal immigrants. To cut this flow of money will damage the economy of Mexico and US/Mexican relations.
In order to keep track of immigrants who have been under the radar working for us for years it would be beneficial to the American economy to give them the right to work here legally.

Meanwhile, thousands of people who have applied to come here legally have had their applications rejected or buried in a back office somewhere. They're probably better off going to Mexico and crossing the border.

The process to gain a green card is long, complex and expensive. I know because I have done it.

I am firmly against illegals slipping around that process.

The same story Drew.
I am lucky I come from Europe where there are very few applications for a green card. I met some people at the American consulate in Amsterdam who moved from Russia to The Netherlands just to get a spouse green card because it was impossible in Russia even being married to an American.

I also think that illegals should go through the process, specially for security reasons, no control means you don't know who is getting into the US...some of them are honest people, some not and that's dangerous.

More affirmative arguments:

This will force employers to pay them minimum wage rather than using them to cheat Americans out of jobs because they are cheaper.

They already pay sales taxes on everything they buy here. Now paycheck taxes could be taken out as well.

No one is illegal. People are people no matter what nationalistic bullshit you believe. No one deserves any more of a chance than anyone else based on where they were born.

Negative arguement (and Bush's motivation):

High demand for jobs panders to the lowest common denominator from business owners. "They can treat workers like shit and say if you dont like it fine I got 10 other people wating for your position" But many business owners do this anyways since unemployment is commonplace and NAFTA allows them to move overseas for any reason (even union busting) so......
