View Full Version : Jesus was a terrorist

So I found this article and it made me want to start a discussion.

Jesus was a terrorist. He oppossed the Romans and preached love, compassion and sharing. These things are always anti-thetical to imperialistic regimes. Jesus was arrested on trumped up charges, tortured in the name of public security and executed for 'the good of the people.'

BTW he was also an arab.

If Jesus returns, Karl Rove will kill him
March 21, 2005

As we enter another Easter Season, it's become all too obvious that if Christ returns, those who hate in Jesus's name will have him slimed, then killed.

Christ was a long-haired peace activist who would have hated the war in Iraq. "Blessed are the peacemakers" Jesus said in his defining Sermon on the Mount. "Turn the other cheek...Love thy neighbor."

Such hippie-radical ideals are the "Christian" right wing's worst nightmare. The GOP would never tolerate an upstart like Jesus gathering a following in the face of their corporate-fundamentalist crusade. These are Christians who love power but would despise the actual Christ, just as they love a Zionist Israel but can't tolerate actual Jews.

In the wake of Jesus's exemplary life of non-violent rebellion, a perverse liturgy weighted by twenty centuries of intolerant bloodthirsty bigotry has erupted in his name. Attacks on people of color, on nations with oil, on humans of the same gender who love each other, on youth who enjoy sex….all have become enemies of a new fundamentalist crusade doing in Christ's name things that would have left him sickened and horrified.

In large part through the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus came to be viewed as Divine because he spoke eloquently for a gracious, loving God.

Karl Rove, Tom DeLay and their ilk believe George Bush and his corporate-fundamentalist minions speak to and for a very different kind of God, one with characteristics at war with those described by Christ.

Bush-Rove's Divinity is a nasty dictator, defined by hate and greed, intolerance and hypocrisy.

Christ kicked the moneychangers out of the temple. Rove-DeLay's Republicans have enshrined them.

Christ spoke of a God of compassion and joy.

Today's so-called Christian fundamentalists worship one of greed-driven warmongering totalitarianism. The only way to salvation, they say is THEIR way, through a spiteful God that hates all Jesus preached.

As Tecumseh, the great Shawnee warrior, shouted at William Henry Harrison in the early 1800s, "You killed the son of your God, then you worshipped him when he was dead, and now you kill those who choose not to follow him."

Guerilla,

What do you smoke to make garbage like you just posted make sense?

I'm guessing that Jesus would overlook the fact that you lefties have done everything to ban ANYTHING that smacks of Christianity from ANY public property. From throwing fits about prayer in school, to trying to remove various Ten Commandments monuments from various courthouses, to banning manger scenes in front of just about anything that is public property to not saying "Merry Christmas" at Christmas time because it would offend ANYONE who isn't Christian. I'd hate to the see the reaction of the Left if some judge put a large crucifix on the wall behind his or her seat.

On the one hand, you invoke Jesus's name to fight the evils of Karl Rove, George Bush and Big Corporation, then turn around and do everything in your power to make sure that not one speck of the christian religion taints your day-to-day life. As echo put it, freedom FROM religion is as important as freedom OF religion. Is THAT isn't an oxymoron, then I've never seen one.

And of course, where does one look to find evil in the world? It's not in Rwanda, where tens of thousands have been slaughtered, nor in the gulags of North Korea, or the polictial prisons in China, the rape rooms/torture chambers of Saddam's Iraq, or the idea that the French, Germans, Russians and the U.N. basically told Saddam "rape and kill all you want, just send us some oil."

OH no, no, no, it's George Bush and Karl Rove and the Big Evil the Corporations. Marching across the world, trying to prop up the same universal rights, freedoms and dignities that we enjoy here in the States and are UNIVERSAL in nature.

Somehow, I just don't buy your thesis, guerilla. Try again.

Dammit.

darth, have you ever tried readin the constitution?
it clearly says there is to be no favoritism for any religion, teaching it, etc.. to put up a ten commandments in public/government institutions is clearly backing a religious affiliation. judaism and christianity. government is to be nuetral on this.
i'd like to see what people would do if a "pagan" shrine is put up on government property during certain "pagan" ceremonial seasons. fair is fair.

Not disagreeing with you at all ivan, but this is an interesting, little known fact in my opinion.

A semite is a Jew in everyday parlance but it is the 2nd definition in dictionaries. The first is "A member of a group of Semitic-speaking peoples of the Near East and northern Africa, including the Arabs, Arameans, Babylonians, Carthaginians, Ethiopians, Hebrews, and Phoenicians."

i do not deny jesus existed. i do doubt all the god on earth shit, and father was begat by god shit, and being all holy and miracle working and shit. i believe he did shake up the romans, and the pharisee ( a governing body of jewish tribes, and kissed roman ass) and he got himself killed for it. the reason christianity is such a pain in the ass now is because of all the made up shit about him and i believe it is because of paul who introduced the idea of christianity becoming the government over time. jesus was against government.

According to a special I once saw on the History Channel a lot of Greek was spoken in that area during the time period in discussion. I would guess because of trade.

i'd say a lot of languages were spoken in the area due to trade. the middle east was a central trade point for a long time. and keep in mind ideas would have spread that way too.
