Maximum pain is aim of new US weapon
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/uclickcomics/20050228/cx_bo_uc/bo20050228&e=4&ncid=
-----snip-----
The US military is funding development of a weapon that delivers a bout of excruciating pain from up to 2 kilometres away. Intended for use against rioters, it is meant to leave victims unharmed. But pain researchers are furious that work aimed at controlling pain has been used to develop a weapon. And they fear that the technology will be used for torture.
"I am deeply concerned about the ethical aspects of this research," says Andrew Rice, a consultant in pain medicine at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London, UK. "Even if the use of temporary severe pain can be justified as a restraining measure, which I do not believe it can, the long-term physical and psychological effects are unknown."
------snip-----
Tasers are tracable and they are still being used for torture in American prisons, as well as else where, with little or no consequences. This new thing will be horrible for human rights. Id rather they had actually created the gay bomb...

I'm sorry, did I see the word "rioters" in your post? Why don't you try standing in front of a riot with a 6 inch billy club.

Obviously you havent been to any protests. The Pigs bring bats now an days. 3 foot long sticks. Not to mention rubber bullets, tasers, tear gas, pepper spray, pepper bullets, and a sound weapon. There is also a microwave weapon that is in the works.
But of course the cops never abuse these weapons and they never use them in a way that could needlessly kill people. They never torure retarded people or prison inmates with them...You dont even have the slightest notion.
Brooks youre a pig arent you?

Given the vicious mindset of many of the jackbooted **kill-all-them-evil-wrong-god -darkies-let-Jezus-sort-'em-out!** rednecks in America, this suprises you?

I was involved in breaking up a riot in Ksmaayo, Somalia in early 1993. There were people litterally disembowling and dismembering each other in the streets. We were all armed with military weaponry but rules of engagement prohibited us from using them for anything other then self defense. now, if you have thousands of people rampaging around with slings and throwing hand grenades how are you going to stop them? one answer, you dont. you chase around grenade throwers and stay out of the way as much as possible. Of course I am sure brooks and I dont have as much experience with riots as 500lbguerilla who has probably thrown a rock through a starbucks window on a weekend break from college, but even we can see the usefulness of a good, wide ranging non lethal weapon. I guess if you are one of the people it was designed to be used onthough I can see why you oppose it.

We're torturing our own troops.
Any parent, that knows about this, and let's their kids sign up and to to Iraq should be charged with child abuse.

Let me get this right Dop. The superior armor they wear now causes the troops to live with serious injury, rather than die, as in the past.
And you define this as torturing our troops.
PLEASE tell me you're joking and I'm dumb for falling for it. You can't be this desperate for a reason to complain.

The real answer brooks, is get the troops out of there and home where they don't have to worry about it.
Sorry, forgot, you're one of those guys that doesn't want to leave Iraq until every woman, child and troop is desd.

Just getting your attention on the fact that if we bring the troops home you and I no longer have to debate stupid shit like what the troops are wearing for protection.
Can you agree with me that the troops should come home? Saddam has been caught, the election is over, democracy is in place (FOX says so) why are we still there?
Can we now bring the troops home Brooks or are you in for more killing on both sides.
There's no middle on this one -- either you want the troops to stay or you want them home ... and try to answer this one without Praetorian.
Praetorian -- Brooks and I are having an intelligent discussion and we would appreciate it if you would butt out with the one-liners that add nothing to the content.

Weve lost the war in Iraq. We should pull out before anymore people are murdered needlessly.
Braindead troops- so whats new?
The best part is that these vegetables will be a very cumbersome burden to their families coutesy of the US goevernment since VA funding is being crushed into virtual non-existance.

TOLEDO -- New video released by the Lucas County Sheriff's Department shows a suspect being shocked with a Taser during his booking. Jeffrey Turner died in January after he was shocked nine times over a 3-hour period.

Shorten the shocking duration to 2 and a half hours and only do it 8 times.

sorry I was referring to Preas answer.
What sould be done?
I believe putting him in a cell makes him unable to hurt anyone or anything except himself. Why was he repeatedly electrocuted except to torture him. As is done regularly in prisons and mental institutions.

A civilian model of the stun gun, unveiled last fall, is very similar to the version used by law agencies.
"I think this could be easily abused," said Hillsborough Sheriff David Gee, whose deputies carry Tasers. "This is not my first choice for a self defense weapon."

I'm all for cells but how do you print, photograph, search and get signatures? You can't leave him in a cell until he is cooperative or the courts complain he was held too long.
The unnecessary use of these is not widespread the proof is that they leave a very identifiable mark.

The unnecessary use of these is not widespread the proof is that they leave a very identifiable mark. assuming of course that you ever get a chance to talk to someone that is sympathetic and willing to turn in their co-workers...
But thanks for proving my point that these new weapons are ripe for abuse.

How do you figure? All that person would have to do is go to a doctor, have the marks confirmed as taser/stun gun related, retain an attorney, and sue the department blue. Given the fact that your lawyer would undoubtedly sequester the stations surveillance tapes, while supplying bona fide medical documentation that backs your abuse claim - I see no problem with establishing a clear cut case of police brutality.

If you look back at all my 2000+ posts korg, one thing you'll see is I never have dinged anyone on their right to expression of opinion. I applaud you for stating your case and believe me, no apology is necessary. You stand with me on many issues and that's more than I expect and probably more than I deserve, given my ability to piss off just about everyone when I post.
I too would be willing to leave the troops there if they were being led by competent command leaders, instead of warmongers, torturers, ex-cia/fbi/nsa civilians and left-overs from the reagan/bush years of the iran-contra killing fields and scandals.

Have you ever been in prison? Have you ever been to a mental house? Have you even read any of the reports from people that have died or later been released who then tell their story?
Do you even know what the Blue wall of silence is? Did you know that the mojority of rapes that occur in America are against men in prison?
You are completely detached from reality. You know how the system is suppossed to work but you dont have a fucking clue how it really works.

No, what's the "Blue wall of silence"? Let me guess - it's cops banning together to protect their own asses. If so, then I agree with you - they do that, and I hate 'em for it.
In answer to your other questions - no, I've never been to prison...jail, yes, but not the booty house. I've never visited a booby hatch, but I have to ask - why does that matter?
You know how the system is suppossed to work but you dont have a fucking clue how it really works.
Okay, then in your 25 years of wisdom, please tell me how it "really works".
