Disgusting?
It's merely a song about the involvement of the church in state affairs in contempory America. There's one f-word towards the end, yes... but disgusting??!??!

I think it's sad what Catholic priests did, but I, unfortunately, I can see how many people would despise Christianity after that. All I can do is say, they are not like us, they are not Christians (in the true meaning of that word).
Also, I think you guys could be a little bit more mature than enjoying songs about penis.

I'll pass on your catholicism bashing. Inter-denominational spats have no interest for me.
The song is not about a penis. The title refers to a single point made in the song - the encroachment of fundamentalists on sexual freedom. If I and other consenting adults wish to fornicate in a manner not approved of in the bible then that is our right.

Fair enough.

The song isn't about a penis. Lighten up.

Well, I am still upset about all this "sexual freedom" movement that has been started. I feel extremely sorry for the people who support it. (and especially practice it)

"sexual freedom movement?" aren't you about 40 years late with that comment?
I feel extremely sorry for the people who support it. (and especially practice it)
you feel sorry for the people who are gettin' some? and you're 18? well, either you're some new, special breed of super-teen created in a laboratory and immune to natural human sexual desires, or you're just saying that because you aren't getting any yourself.

I aspire to be one of those who practices it...
Oh, and furthermore...I certainly hope you're not an advocate of laws regarding sodomy, same-sex marriage, and the like. If you were (especially of the former), I'd have to yell at you for a bit...

I was talking about having sex with a member of the same sex. I am not against normal sex, though, my plan is to abstain.

I think I made myself misunderstood. :S I am against everything except normal heterosexual marriage and moderate sex activity. By no means I will support sodomy, same sex marriage and the like.

I'm not asking what you, personally, advocate for people. I'm asking what you think the government should tell people what they can and cannot do. I'm asking if you think sodomy should carry some sort of penalty by the government, in addition to whatever penalty you think God would levy. I'm asking if you think the government should discriminate against gay marriages.

Absolutely yes. I think it should punish it with....a very big fine or something.
In the best case scenario I would like to see gov't enforce the Bible and its laws. Make Christianity the only religion and so on... I know it's not gonna happen.

There is only one word to describe this post: Anti-American. Actually, let's go with treasonous...not arrest-able, because I do believe in freedom of speech, but damn, that is the most disgusting remark I have ever heard on Allforums. Seriously. You really ought to re-think your position, as you are seriously fucked up in the head if you really want to make Christianity our only religion.
Read up on our history. Read up on the purpose of the First Amendment. Realize how it not only protects Jews and atheists, but also other Christians. Think about how many different Bible versions there are. How many sects of Christianity. Then think about how utterly fucked up the statement "In the best case scenario I would like to see gov't enforce the Bible and its laws. Make Christianity the only religion and so on..." is.

Wow...that "or something" shows you've really thought this one out.

Great. Would you enforce the biblical laws with biblical punishments?
What would you propose the government do to non-christians?

That's scary stop. I would not wish to live in a country that imposes a single ideology; be it biblical (e.g. medieval europe), koranic (e.g. the Taliban), communist (e.g. North Korea), fascist (e.g. Burma) or whatever.

No, I absolutely agree with STOp, let's make Christianity the official religion of the United States.
Unfortunately for you STOp, Roman Catholicism has been chosen. Please begin your donations to the Pope and purchase some rosary beads immediately.
Oh wait, you meant your brand of Christianity, didn't you?
We could do worse than impose a monolithic international superstate ruled over by the watchtower organisation, IMO.
No one would be allowed to be a soldier or policeman. They permit alcohol. Plus I think they'd be tolerant of other beliefs. Afterall, they'd need a supply of disbelievers to try and convert when they go door to door.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Read it. Then read it again. Then get back to us.

Yeah, sputnik, that's why I said it's not going to happen. And anyways what I am thinking of is Heaven anyways, I don't think we can get it on Earth.
All I expressed was my wish that the people would be Christians. If that happened we wouldn't even need gov't or laws or punishments....Yeah...Now that is definitely not going to happen.

"Note that atheists, being a moderate proportion of the USA population (about 8-16%) are disproportionately less in the prison populations (0.21%)."

Psh! One study, I sincerely doubt its credibility. There are many variables that have to be taken into account, and, as I said before, many people who claim to be Christians are not.

Explain to me the point someone in Prison would have of pretending to be a Christian?

Well done. That's called critical thought. It's a shame you only engage it for things you wish to be untrue.
Yet my link provides evidence on the relative percentage of atheists in prison, and stands till refuted by statistics from an equally or more authoritative source.

still, that study was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and not a biased source. I did find this webpage: http://www.adherents.com/misc/adh_prison.html that prints that study along with a few others, and it mainly says that while the number of prisoners who don't identify themselves with any sect is very large, the number of prisoners who specifically identify themselves as "atheists" is very small as compared to the general population.
I have to say that while I find it easy to believe there are less atheists represented in prison than in society at large, I suspect the reasons are socio-economic.
Atheists are generally in the category of the professional classes (though not exclusively by any means) and the professional classes are shielded from crime by material security. In other words, atheism is a luxury the bourgoisie can afford to indulge in.
Religion is particularly widespread amongst the poor because its easy promises (all you have to do is believe!) appeal to those with little control over their lives. That lack of control also means the poor turn to crime, as well as religion, to try and improve their sorry lot in life.
It is the economically oppressed who crowd the prisons of America, and religion is their opium.

I suggest you get down on your knees and pray for all of us who are "gettin some". Now, that's a lot of praying for a lot of people so you'll probubly need knee pads and a couple years worth of food rations........Have fun.....
Can you clench it any tighter?

Of course we have to remember that a lot of prisoners have learned that they can get all sorts of special privileges by pretending to be religious. If you're an athiest, you get nothing.

Most prisoners are uneducated concerning religion. I don't think they can really call themselves anything, Christians or atheists. Most of them call themselves Christians because they probably came form Xn family and remained labeled as such.
