This was posted on Slashdot a couple of days ago and I read it then, but didn't think of puting it here, but now I have because I remembered about it when talking about coins and such regarding flippy-ness and randominity so I decided to put it in Science because it's sciency but it's also kinda wacky mystically so it could go in there too; I could post it twice... but I'm too lazy.

that is really interesting. there is of course the skeptic's point of view, mentioned in the article, that disastrous and sometimes wonderful things happen a whole lot, and basically anything could be tied to the fluctuations in the data. however, what i would like to know is how often the data actually does that. 'cause if it happens like every day, it wouldn't be that big a deal, but if it really did occur only when something very important was happening that affected a lot of people it would be impressive.
the craziest thing in that was how people could affect the data with thier minds. i really want to try that myself somehow.

Try their website (http://noosphere.princeton.edu/), they have years of data on there. I've only looked through a few and most of it makes no sense to me... Mumbo-jumbo numbers that only statistical scientists understand...

i tried to do an experiment with flipping coins, since that's basically what the little black box does, but flipping coins can be EXTREMELY annoying especially when done in bed with a flashlight. so i stopped. is it possible to predict the future and influence data with your mind? i guess we'll never know...

I'm thinking it actually has a bit to do with the fact that it is electronic which is why it fluxuates. Living beings have electromagnetic fields around them, it's natural, and any psychiccrazy will tell you that people's aura's change colours depending on their moods. Colours correspond to amounts of energy waves have, thus I'm thinking that the electromagnetic charge fluxuates(and I don't know acutally of any experiment that has actually ever bothered to measure electromagnetic fluxuations based on people's moods). Fluxuations of millions of electromagnetic fields probably has some effect on electronic things, and maybe this device is rather suceptable to them. *Shrugs* Just a guess of mine.

Spell "fluctuate" correctly, dammit!

I propose we mark borg as a spammer due to his grammar spam.
Blib, interesting article, the black box in the article brings to mind what you have heard me call the River of Knowledge (that I believe) flows around us. It would consist of the very basic building blocks of all that is. A sort of intelligence of combination, having no direction or ambition. These are my words of trying to explain something that I cannot truely comprehend in totality.
As you stated, it could be electromagnetic I had not thought of this before. Magnetic forces are universal.
This black box could be sensitive to changes in this field of whatever.
My years of research has been in using this field to influence changes in our material world past what could be called random chance. I have had only momentary positive results, but were quite impressive.
My avenue of experimentation at present is thru the use of stimulated vibration at a molecular level. Progress is slow when you are self financed.
Due to your statement, I am going to incorporate magnetic field influence of both positive and negative flux.
Thanks,
Dan

I believe it.
Did you know that pretty much no animals died in the tsunami?(those large enough to get away from the area that is)
Theres even a story of elephants being very upset that day and making noises when the quake happned and right before the tsunami. They grabbed some people on their back and ran for the high lands. Crazy shit.
I believe there is much that we are disconnected from in modern day society. technology is our God now.

Im glad someones on the same wave length as me.
Does this mean though regarding everyone using their electrocmagnetic fields that potentially should something happen to the whole world that upset, scared or made everyones emotions fluctuate at the same time, that we are a massive global EMP bomb?

Maybe that many people hoping for a solution to the problem would help set into motion a ripple effect to overcome the problem.

millions of people all praying for a better world hasnt really made a difference... in fact, take all the third world countries whom get hit by all kinds of shit, floods, droughts etc and id make an educated guess and assume they are praying a whole lot of the time.
Yes, but we have no way of knowing how bad it would have gotten without the united concentration of like minded people.
Theory that it would have been worse.
