since this topic is getting legal matters involved..i thought i'd post this here instead of in the sports section....

I have some opinions about the whole Baseball Steroids uproar...

with the release of Jose Canseco's book entitled "juiced", in which he reveals how much steroids are a part of the game, it seems to be quite a hot topic.

In case you havn't seen or heard....Canseco reveals names of people who he either injected or witnessed injecting themselves with steroids.... And ALL of these people, including the likes of Jason Giambi, Mark McGwire, Ivan Rodriguez, and Rafael Palmaro...have avidly denied these accusations....calling them "ludicrous", and ripping into Canseco calling him either dillusional or just out to sell books.....

While Canseco IS a questionable source... the allegations he brings ARE credible. Its not as if he's suggesting they were in on the JFK assassination....he's saying they used Steroids.

And in case you didn't know.....Jason Giambi, Barry Bonds, and Gary Sheffield ALL have admitted to using steroids....

So WHY is it that Baseball has made such a toothless steroid policiy, in which it takes 5 VIOLATIONS.....thats right, 5.....just to get suspended for what....a year???

And WHY is it that Bonds, Giambi, and Sheffield have NOT been formally charged and prosecuted??? Steroids are ILLEGAL

Baseball should kick guys out of the league if they cheat... not slap them on the wrist...and then they should have to face the legal consequences....

Because the player's union has too much power, that's why.

I like the proposed 3 Strike rule enforcing a permanent ban from MLB.

As for Canseco's account of knowing that certain people had taken steroids, I'm not so certain of. Players like Rafael Palmero arent that big. He doesnt seem to be that much bigger then he should be in ratio to his height. That and he doesnt hit monsterous homeruns, his just barely make it over the fence for the most part. Like Eddie Murray, his swing is what takes the ball out of the park. Though I can't say for certain that Canseco is wrong, I really doubt his word on the matter. He was just looking for a quik buck by taking down some of the big names that the fans would be interested in.

When Rafi first came up to the major leagues with the Cubs, he was about the same size as Mark Grace. In fact, i believe the reason they kept Grace and let Rafi go was because they projected Grace would have more power during the course of his career. I know it proves nothing, but if you compare the two side by side now Rafi looks like a beast compared to Grace.

Another baseball player accused by Canseco was Ivan Rodriguiz, the catcher for the Detroit Tigers. Anyone seen a picture of him this year? He lost ALL his size during the offseason.
