I don't see arrogance in his speech, I think he is being very reasonable. God does punish the wicked.

Yes I'm sure the thousands of children killed by the tsunami were all homosexual fornicators.

That is Old Testamont...
Are you saying as a professing "Christian" that you think God looked down from where ever...didn't like their behaviour and massacred them all??????????

I never said they were all homos and ceirtainly they all didn't commit sexual immorality. I also didn't say that the guy was right, I merely said that he has a point, because God sometimes does things that are hard for us to understand. This might have been one of them, who knows. Again, I know that God had His reason for doing it (if he did it).

God did NOT do this. You need to read your New Testament again.

I never said that He did, but what makes you so sure? What does NT says about it?

why does God have to have anything to do with that tsunami? Everybody want to put this on God. Read the account of Job. Who caused that wind to strike the corners of Job's building, killing all 10 of his children. Was it God? Read it carefully.

Well, Christ does say that not one sparrow falls to the ground apart from My Father's will.
And Paul does say in 1Cor 10:8, "nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day 23,000 fell"
Every death occurs because God wills.
God willed to give the power to Satan to do all those terrible things to Job.
Again, I am not saying that He did it, merely, that He let it happen.

Letting it happen is allowing the earth and the people on it to take it's natural course. Awareness is not "cause". He gave us free will. How can you give someone free will and then say... you chose incorrectly I am going to kill all of you. Oh but you guys living over there chose wrong too, but I am gonna let you live (for now). That would be some convoluted mind.

Why? Saint Augustine explains it, he says:
When somebody dies for something bad they did, we need to realize that we are just as bad, but God's mercy is on us for now. So we better repent or else.
God does love us, I agree with that, but He is also jealous, just, and good God. He can make the choice: kill those, spare these. To us it's impossible to think of, but He knows the heart and the mind.

Can you lead me specifically to that quote because I would like to see the context within which it is used. It seems to me that he is saying judge not lest thou be judged.
"God does love us but"...BUT...the use of the word but immediately implies a different direction. Jealousy is not a good thing, where does Christ say that he is a jealous God.
Show me where in the NT it says God will kill people and spare others.
It’s not impossible to think of, it down right horrifying.

Oh...this will take some time to find...
Book XXI Chapter 13 talks about some of it, but it's not exactly what I was looking for...
Sorry, it's 1000+ pages, and I read it some time ago and only once. I can't find it, but I assure you I am not taking it out of context.
Christ never said that He is a jealous God, but in Old Testament...it's like on every page. (ex: Exodus 20:5, the Ten Commandments)
I don't think I can point out a place where God said He will kill some and spare the others (and I never said that, I just said that He could), but I don't see anything improbable in it. Righteous people want to die to be with Christ and others deserve to die...psh! everybody deserves to die, so if God decides to kill some, who are we to say "woe" to Him? Plus death isn't so bad.

You waded through a 1000 pages on St. Augustine????...I think I would rather burn in hell...:D ...kidding!
Yeah I know the OT is full of God's wrath and anger but I think that was due to the times and the culture. I seriously do not believe a loving God is going to smite people all over the place. That was not Christ's message nor his instruction. And if you are reading St. Augustine I seriously doubt that your church teaches or believes that either.
As far as death goes, I am not all that anxious to experience it. Think I'll hang here for awhile and let all the right thinking people experience it first.

Sal, you are funny, but I dissagree with you. I want to die as soon as possible, because then I don't have to be here, unfortunately, God said no suicide, so I have to stick around.
Christ does promote love, but look at Acts 5:1-11. What is that?!?! That's OT all over again. You know what's the point, though? Don't mess around with the Power. It's like fire, if you don't know how to behave around it, you will get hurt. I personally feel sorry for God, because He has to endure all our wickedness,...but He is God, I know.
Also, I didn't look through all 1000 pages, just the last 200, but the quote might have been somewhere else...St. Augustine is really wise, you should read him. The quote that I gave you is not representative of him, he is not like "Yeah! God will kill you all!! 'Cause you deserve it!" No, he is really awesome, just like Paul.

Yeah things get a little hairy there with people dropping dead from their lies and deceptions. It's
very OT.
At first glance it seems to be about them withholding the money but it was actually their lie to God. Interesting interpretation by those in the room.
I will check out Augustine a little more closely. I did a quick google looking for your verse but couldn't find it. He is quite the interesting character. Seems to have a child out of wedlock etc. Not the greatest thing in those times. Seems ya have to be a sinner first before ya get to be a saint. I'm working on the first part now. :D

Yeah, I read his "Confessions" too, it's really inspiring. He is extremely hard to read, but it's worth it.
Also, I summarized his statement, it's not an actual quotation, so you won't find in online, but I am sure I got the message correctly.
