POMPANO BEACH, Fla. --
A 10-year-old boy has been suspended from a Pompano Beach elementary school amid allegations he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old classmate.
The alleged attack happened last Friday at Sanders Park Elementary School. A school spokesman said an investigation began Monday and the decision was made Wednesday to suspend the boy.
The parents of the boy who said he was assaulted said they believe that the 10-year-old was armed with a knife. Police have not confirmed that.

The parents of the 8-year-old boy have asked that their son be transferred to another school.
Counseling has been made available to both boys.
The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.

What should happen to this ten year old if this should prove true?

I have no idea if a 10 year old really knows what he's doing in that situation? I sure as hell didn't know anything about sex when I was 10. I guess I'd send him to the psychiatrist.

I agree with Lionel -- counselling and anger management. Makes you wonder what kind of home life he has.

Kids know way more than we think.

Kids can understand anything they are exposed to, and our kids are exposed to a whole lot more than previous generations.

It seems to me that this isn't about some kid who was exposed to sex, or some other "bad" influence. Somewhere along the line this kid learned that it was ok to force his desires on someone else. If he believes that it is ok to force sex on someone, chances are it's been forced on him.

or he has seen it done to someone, and no one has told him you don't do this sort of thing.
a lot of kids now seem to have had no guidance or discipline in their lives.

Well, for whatever its worth, in Texas, he's just barely old enough to be subject to the juvenile justice system. He'd prolly end up on strict probation and with some serious counciling, as well as various other programs designed to treat dysfunctional families and kids who are at risk of being adult sex offenders. A lot depends on the circumstances too, of course...for instance, if he DID use a knife, you're more likely to see the kid end up in a secured facility of some sort.

Wow that is sad... Although the boy probably is not all that ignorant. When I was 10 (only about 5 years ago mind you). I knew plenty about subjects you would not expect.

From the responses here it seems all would pretty much say this kid is from one very messed up environment and that he needs help in a big way.

Interesting.

Another site I post on had a few advocates for the death penalty. No kidding. They were heavily into "punishing" him by ending his life. At the same time, they are vocal anti-abortion supporters.

They also seemed to miss the irony. ~shrug~

I just took a sociology of the family course, and we looked at violence in young children. basically, theres a nuerological explanation for this. if a child is not rasied in a home where s/he is exposed to proer behaviour, he willl not be mentally capable of it. this kid was probably a victim of abuse, at a very young age, and has never learned the right way to interact with other people.

Investigate the parents/relatives. Children that attempt to sexually abuse other children before they even have a clue what the hell their doing is usually an imitation of whats happening to them.

Where's the rest of the story?

Yeah, we don't let the elderly push us around here like you guys do. I distinctly remember seeing grannies terrorizing the populace on an episode of Monty Python.
