funny story.
now is the wonderful time of year when my school bombards us poor sophomores with anti-drug propaganda. today we watched a "documentary" called Hooked where all the "actors" (i don't think they deserve the title) had rediculous eighties hairdos and outfits. basically it was about three teenagers who do various drugs, and one kid almost gets his finger chopped off because he smoked too much pot. and then at the end there were a bunch of fake interviews with some more rediculously-haired people, and a quiz to take to find out how big of a druggie you are. but this was nothing compared to what we had to go through in seventh grade, where we were forced to sit through a movie entitled "Pot The Party Crasher" where some poor child almost gets peer-pressured into smoking pot in a toolshed. our class had to write alternative endings for the skit where the kid either says no in various ways, or smokes the pot and dies a horrible death.
so what i'm trying to say with this is, every time my school tries to educate us about drug use i want to go get wasted/stoned/inject some heroin just to spite the people who made those awful movies. so i ask you, what is the point of drug education when it seems to make me, and all my classmates, want to do drugs more?

The highly-paid education bigwigs think that the movies help you and me. However, the teachers and the students both know that they don't do a damned thing to stop people from smoking/drinking/doing drugs. That's the way most of the world works: The PHBs (Pointy-haired bosses; referring to the Dilbert comic strip) make all the decisions while the minions all complain about how they're stupid. Also, see one of Dilbert's theorems, namely that the most incompetent are promoted to higher positions to get them where they can do the least damage. This is especially true of schools...most principals and assistant principals are teachers who sucked at their jobs.

like donald rumsfeld?
the thing that really suprises me is, my school is usually pretty cool about stuff, and most of the teachers are very nice, but every once in awhile they go CRAZY and foist these horrible movies on us. its some sort of horrible transformation. like my school is a werewolf or something.

I was saying the same thing about all those stupid anti-pot commercials.
My favorite was the one with the gun. Dangerous?
At least the ones they make now arent completely stupid.
Smoke pot - get kicked off the baseball team. Yeah right...at least half the baseball players at my school smoked and not a single one was ever kicked off.

For like 3 years straight we had this 3 screen multi-media extravaganza (sponsored by Pepsi, the choice of a new generation) to remind us how cool people that don't do drugs were. People like Debbie Gibson, The New Kids on the Block, and Philip Michael Thomas. I sure as hell wanted to be cool and Just Say No. Oh, and once they brought in a cool band that looked like the kids from Saved By the Bell. But it was better than class.

DARE ctually made me go through a fase in middle school when I REALLY REALLY desperately wanted to do drugs. just the way they described being high sounded sooooo fun. and now i go to a school where they ask us please not to smoke our ciagrettes on school ground every morning on the anouncements. they also have to tell us which side of the hall to walk on. ;)
